CrossFit is a company based on a philosophy of physical exercise and competitive fitness. It was started in 2000 by Greg Glassman and Lauren Jenai. CrossFit workouts consist of aerobic exercise, Olympic weightlifting and gymnastics. What is different about this program as opposed to a gym is the workout is constantly varied with functional movements which are performed with a high intensity.
Studies have demonstrated increased cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, strength, power, speed, balance and coordination. Critics have shown that with improper technique, spinal injuries and rhabdomyolysis may occur.
