Elliptical Workout

An elliptical trainer is a stationary exercise machine which simulates walking, running or stair climbing without causing excessive stress on the body’s joints. By decreasing stress it hopefully will decrease the potential for exercise-induced injuries. Elliptical trainers offer a cardiovascular workout which is low-impact. One may vary the intensity, speed of exercise and resistance to accommodate individual goals.

Elliptical trainers were invented by Precor in the 1990s. There are three types of elliptical trainers based on the drive location – rear drive, front drive, and now center drive. Studies have shown that as stride is lengthened, more calories are burned and a larger variety of muscle groups are employed. Thus, this low impact type of exercise is very user-friendly.
