What is a Discectomy?
A discectomy is one of the most common procedures performed to correct problems caused by a herniated disc. When a damaged portion of a disc is compressing one or your nerves, removing that damage will decompress the nerve and symptoms should resolve.
In most cases where a discectomy is performed in the neck, a cervical spine fusion
is needed to stabilize that area. This helps to eliminate pain caused by spinal instability by locking the vertebrae above and below the disc in place.
